He estimates the costs to be about 10% of the vessel's value annually. Despite the monetary considerations, he still considers boating the best recreation.

Tightwad tech: there's no fortune in saving a buck in boating
Article Abstract:
There is very little advantage in being frugal about one's yacht. One should not be content with cheap finishes for a yacht because proper appearances require the expensive modern coatings. Buying cheap safety gears is also inadvisable as disasters and accidents are more costly.
