Emergency position indicating radio beacons will continue to operate on two wavelengths, 243 MHz and 406 MHz, until 2006. Satellites launched after this date will no longer have to include the monitoring of the 243 MHz signals. The safety implications of this change are discussed.

Staying power: a sea anchor gives you muscle during a knockdown storm

Setting a heavy storm anchor can be an effective way of riding out a storm in relatively shallow water. In deeper water, a sea anchor, which is set into the water off the bow, may be the best solution.
