A voting member of Baseball Writers of America confesses that the selection of Baseball Hall of Fame inductees is a difficult task. For example, it is completely illogical that Ty Cobb is in the Hall of Fame and Pete Rose is not. The selections should be made by a panel of about seven people.

Babe Ruth earned $80,000 in 1930, and was by far the highest-paid player in baseball. If he played today, he still would earn more than anyone else, generating perhaps as much as $25 million a year. Ruth would be constantly in the media spotlight, and his lifestyle might change as a result.

Hidden history: Hall of Famer Cap Anson was baseball's best player and most strident racist
Article Abstract:
The Baseball Hall of Fame calls Adrian 'Cap' Anson the best hitter and player/manager of the 19th century. Anson was also a racist who boycotted games in which African-American players were to participate. His influence may have delayed baseball integration for many years.
