Backpackers and hikers will avoid injuries and accidents best if they are in good physical condition before hitting the trail. Aerobic exercise for heart conditioning and exercises for strength and flexibility are described, and a training regimen is given.

Article Abstract:
A diet rich in carbohydrates will give an active person energy. Sports drinks and power bars, taken frequently in small doses, are a good source of carbohydrates while hiking. Keeping in shape and drinking a lot of water are also important factors.
