The growth in car crime in the UK has led to a strong rise in demand for car security products. The value of the market increased by 115% in the period 1990-1994, reaching 215 million pounds sterling, with growth of 71% in real terms over the same period. Most growth was seen by professional alarms, followed by DIY alarms, immobilisers and manual devices. Around 76% of car owners now have some sort of security device fitted to their car.

It is possible to avoid large, summer crowds in national parks by taking less-frequently used trails. A guide to some of these trails in parks such as the Grand Canyon, Great Smoky Mountains, Yosemite, Olympia and Yellowstone is given.
