Differences in emotional responsivity and anger in athletes and nonathletes: startle reflex modulation and attributional response
Article Abstract:
The startle responses of both athletes and nonathletes to certain stimuli were measured and compared. Results showed that there was no significant difference in the startle reflex modulation of athletes, nonathletes or athletes from different sports. This indicates that emotional responsivity among athletes during competitions are likely to be socially learned responses rather than effect of the pressure of the game. Athletes and nonathletes are likely to exhibit the same behavior if they are exposed to the same stimuli.

Self-presentational sources of competitive stress during performance
Article Abstract:
Interviews of twenty athletes active in competition identified eight general sources of stress and indicate that 67.3% of stress sources increase the athletes' need to present themselves favorably in competition. The findings suggest that most athletes are sensitive to the impressions competitors and others form of them during competition, and that factors primarily affecting self-presentations implications fo performance often trigger stress responses. Significant-other stressors were the most prevalent.

Getting closer...but still no cigar! Comments on Bakker, Boschker, and Chung (1996)
Article Abstract:
Imagery plays a critical role in sport psychology interventions, however there are often serious conceptual, methodological and analytical flaws in imagery research literature that can challenge conclusions. Theoretical interventions are welcome, but researchers need to improve measurement strategies and experimental designs.
