Dog psychology 201: teaching a dog to whoa doesn't have to be hard - all you have to do is let the dog teach himself
Article Abstract:
A bird dog can be taught to stop by letting it think it taught itself to stop. Treats and praise given early and often, and placing the dog on a bench and telling it whoa helps it learn balance and stop all movement. Bird dogs need to learn how to listen to the stop command to be successful.

Making sense of scents
Article Abstract:
The use of training scents to help train hunting dogs is not effective because the dogs can sense the visual differences between live and dead odors. Only young retriever puppies respond well to bottled scents. Breaking scents are ineffective.
