Effects of aerobic fitness on fat oxidation and body fatness
Article Abstract:
It has been found that in sedentary male subjects, 24-hour fat oxidation correlates positively with body fat mass and negatively related to VO(sub.2max). Regularly active males appear to maintain lower body fat stores with the low contribution to daily fat oxidation from a lower body fat mass is counterbalanced by high contribution to fat oxidation from daily physical activity. Major effects of physical activity on total energy expenditure and fat oxidation may be during and right after exercise. The study had 49 male and 45 female adult subjects.

A Colorado statewide survey of walking and its relation to excessive weight
Article Abstract:
A statewide survey of walking was conducted with 1098 individuals in Colorado in order to provide baseline information for Colorado on the Move (COM), an obesity prevention program. The results obtained provided the first population data on walking levels, on how this relates to self-related physical activity, and on determinants of walking.

Overview of the determinants of overweight and obesity: current evidence and research issues
Article Abstract:
Declining levels of physical activity have been shown as causing the obesity epidemic by creating an imbalance between energy intake and energy expenditure. The data do not support genetics as the causative factor. Physical activity is the preferable public health strategy.
