Effects of vascular occlusion on surface electromyography and muscle oxygenation during isometric contraction
Article Abstract:
The changes in motor-unit activity and muscle oxygenation during isometric contraction with and without vascular occlusion, using surface electromyography (EMG) and near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) are investigated. Results suggest that oxygen supply to active muscles was impaired by occlusion and that type II fibers were then preferentially recruited, which suggests that hypertrophy occurs in low-intensity exercise in patients with limitations.

Hip adduction does not affect VMO EMG amplitude or VMO:VL ratios during a dynamic squat exercise
Article Abstract:
A study was undertaken to determine whether VMO (vastus medialis oblique) activation amplitude and the VMO to vastus lateralis (VL) activation ratio (VMO:VL) were altered by the performance of active hip adduction during a dynamic squat exercise. It was observed that active hip adduction did not greatly change VMO amplitude or VMO:VL ratio during the knee flexion or knee extension parts of the dynamic squat exercise.

Quantifying bilateral joint contributions during three variations of the step exercise
Article Abstract:
A study to quantify the joint torque contributions of the lower extremity during three different step exercises that include forward step-up (FS), lateral step-up (LS) and step-down (SD) is conducted. Results reveal that choice of step exercise results in different distributions of mechanical demand across the lower extremities.
