Delayed metabolic activation of oxidative phosphorylation in skeletal muscle at exercise onset
Article Abstract:
The experimental evidence pointing to a delayed metabolic activation as the main limiting factor for VO2 kinetics, and some of the mechanisms or factors possibly involved is presented. The main determinants of muscle VO2 kinetics, likely reside in the intricate interplay between the various mechanisms of energy provision at exercise onset.

Skeletal muscle protein synthesis after active or passive ascent to high altitude
Article Abstract:
The effects of acute exposure to high altitude on muscle protein synthesis rates in human volunteers were examined after active and passive ascent. The fractional rate of muscle protein synthesis increased after active, but not passive accent to high altitude, suggesting that exercise accounts for the observed effect.
