Dauphin Island Race, reunions the family of the sailors through a 20-mile race of 217 boats from upper Mobile Bay to the barrier sand island on the Gulf of Mexico. The running of the forty-sixth annual Dauphin Island Race fell to Fairhope Yacht Club, nestled in the mouth of Bayou Volanta, a favored enclave beneath the bluffs of the verdant eastern shore opposite the city of Mobile.

ISAF are not providing any endorsement for recognizing kite-powered crafts as holders of the outright World Sailing Speed Record due to the cartwheeling self-destruction of Macquarie Innovation on a speed run in 2004. The World Speed Sailing Record Council maintains a category for boards with kite sails, and so far no one on a kite has gone faster than the sailing speed record.
