Fit beyond the years: exercise extends lives of people with diabetes
Article Abstract:
A study of 548 insulin-dependent diabetics showed that men who did not exercise regularly were three times more likely to die early than active men. The same held true for women, though to a lesser degree. Diabetics must monitor glucose levels carefully when exercising.

Diabetes to go: one fatty meal per day boosts risk
Article Abstract:
A study of the diets of 1,300 adults revealed that, for every extra intake of 40 grams of fat, the risk of diabetes mellitus can increase by as much as 300%. Cutting fat and increasing carbohydrates were found to lower heart disease rates as well.

The 6 percent solution: exercise prevents diabetes

Research shows that every 500 calories burned per week in exercise reduces the risk of developing non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus by 6%. 500 calories equals about 60 minutes of vigorous activity.
