Response to Bairner's "Back to basics: Class, social theory and sport"
Article Abstract:
The position of Marxism in the sociology of sport as discussed by Bairner in "Back to basics: Class, social theory, and sport" is refuted. The nature of a post-Marxist analysis of sport has to be keenly attuned to contemporary modes of economic and cultural reproduction within which class has to be understood in relation to other formations of identity.
