The first Gold Race began on Jan 17, 1998, participated in by three of the fastest 60-foot yachts in the world. The 13,900-mile race's route will take the boats from New York to San Francisco, CA, via Cape Horn. By mid-February, Yves Parlier's Aquitaine Innovations appears to be leading.

Isabelle airlifted to safety after rollover - Auguin wins Leg II
Article Abstract:
The 1995 BOC Challenge ended for yachtswoman Isabelle Autissier after her 60-ft 'Ecureuil Poitou' was swamped and destroyed. The accident occurred in the Indian Ocean, midway through the competition's second leg. Christophe Auguin in 'Sceta Calberson' won the leg.

The unluckiest (and luckiest) day of Isabelle's life
Article Abstract:
Autissier can be considered both unlucky and lucky on Feb 16, 1999 when her sailboat capsized even though the weather condition was common for coastal cruises. However, she was competently rescued by Around Alone race coordinator Pete Dunning and Giovanni Soldini.
