Photorefractive keratectomy can eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses and uses no incisions, but is expensive, not covered by insurance, and can have complications and side effects. These include a 7% chance of failure, a 10% chance of temporary halos, and a 5% change of farsightedness.

Psychologist Martha Sanchez-Craig, after years of research with alcoholics, concluded that many are able to continue to drink in moderation. DrinkWise, a program based on Sanchez-Craig's findings, insists on no more than 12 drinks a week for women and no more than 14 a week for men.
