Trouble at the trailhead
Article Abstract:
Campers and hikers can help prevent theft by trying not to leave valuable items in their car. Trailhead theft is difficult to prevent because of a lack of personnel to cover large areas of land. Thefts are less likely at heavily used parking areas and remote parking areas.

Oleoresin capsaicin, which has no long-term negative effects on animals, can be carried in a hip holster to render an attacking bear temporarily blind. Caution must be used, however, and people should not develop a false sense of security while in bear territory.
