Frank Sacks of Harvard Medical School surprises many high-cholesterol patients by telling them to go ahead and eat nuts if they like them. Nuts do contain oil, but they also contain essential nutrients. In addition, there is evidence that nuts can help fight bad cholesterol.

Truth, beauty and skin cancer

Australia has a high rate of skin cancer, but health officials there do not focus prevention campaigns on sunscreen because they believe it provides a false sense of security. Some researchers doubt that sunscreens prevent cancer even when they are used properly.

Beer has become extremely popular in the US, with the average adult American consuming 34 gallons annually. Most beer is high in calories, which may add some validity to the 'beer belly' stereotype. Light and nonalcoholic beers contain fewer calories.
