In search of Halford
Article Abstract:
The full-length biography of F.M. Halford and his dedication to the development of dry flies and fishing techniques to match the hatches on British chalkstreams is presented. The biography written by Tony Hayter describes Halford as a total empiricist and as a man who spent his time observing onstream, studying the aquatic insects and the troutEs reaction rather than catching fishes.

The issues surrounding the system of lines for fly fishing like how to match the weight (in grains) of the lines to the size of the rod and how to measure the sink rate of the lines, by their weight (in grains) or their density is discussed. The view of Mel Krieger and Macauley that there is no standard sink-rate is seconded.
