This article examines the relationship between resistance training, protein metabolism, and growth in skeletal muscle. Amino acid availability and hormones including testosterone and insulin influence protein balance and growth in skeletal muscle for up to two days after resistance training.

Independent and combined effects of amino acids and glucose after resistance exercise
Article Abstract:
Research shows that the effect of amino acids and carbohydrates, ingested either individually or together after resistance exercise, on the net muscle protein synthesis is approximately equivalent to the sum of tje independent effects. Data indicate that prior intake of amino acids and carbohydrates do not diminish the metabolic response to a second dose.
