IndyCar's simmering civil war ... the power struggle in open wheel racing

IndyCar racing promises to become even more divided with the announcement by Tony George of the creation of a new racing series, the Indy Racing League. IndyCar was split once before, in 1978, when some of the owners broke from the United States Auto Club to form Championship Auto Racing Teams.

Rocket Rick retires ... IndyCar's classiest driver hangs up his helmet
Article Abstract:
Racing driver Rick Mears has announced his retirement at age 41. Mears has won four Indianapolis 500 races and three IndyCar World Series championships. By retiring now, Mears will miss the opportunity of being the only five-time Indianapolis 500 winner.
