Article Abstract:
Portholes, or opening ports, can be installed into a deadlight, or non-opening windows, to improve natural ventilation in boats. A flat deadlight large enough to accomodate a porthole is ideal for such a job. Pointers for cutting the deadlight and installing the porthole are offered.

Deck vents can be used to prevent the accumulation of stale air in boats. They are designed for continuous operation and do not require electricity. The active mushroom models are equipped with solar cells or a combination of solar power and rechargeable batteries.

Techniques for installing electric refrigeration aboard a cruising boat are presented. Finding the proper spot for the compressor is the hardest part in the installation. The compressor can be mounted in odd-shape places by using various blocks and stringers.
