Introduction: evaluation of some measurements of physical activity and energy expenditure
Article Abstract:
Current interest in the relationship between exercise and disease has caused a greater need for reliable methods of measuring physical activity and related energy costs. This article provides an overview of innovative methods and equipment used to measure the frequency, duration, and intensity of exercise in field and laboratory settings.

Field evaluation of energy expenditure from continuous and intermittent walking in women
Article Abstract:
This study compares measures of total energy expenditure in groups of women who engaged in either three ten-minute walks separated by rest or one thirty-minute walk. Results indicate that total energy expenditure was significantly higher in the continuous walking group when compared to the intermittent walking group.

The utility of the Digi-Walker step counter to assess daily physical activity patterns
Article Abstract:
This study evaluates the ability of the Digi-Walker step counter to accurately assess regular physical activity levels in field conditions. Results indicate that step counts recorded by the pedometer were moderately correlated with energy expenditure estimates and time spent on physical activities.
