Asphalt, cinder, concrete, dirt, grass, sand, snow, track, treadmill, and wood chip running surfaces are discussed. All the surfaces tend to have both advantages and disadvantages for runners. Asphalt, for example, is softer than concrete, but the crowns of some roads can result in an uneven pace.
