Research indicates that regular consumption of flavonoids reduces the risk of stroke, and that black tea is a major source of flavonoids. Researchers speculate that flavonoids reduce stroke risk by impeding the ability of platelets to form clots and by blocking the oxidation of LDL cholesterol.

A research study has shown that exercise can reduce the risk of stroke by half, and that comparatively little exercise is needed to achieve that goal. Research subjects who walked three times a week for 20 minutes improved their chances of avoiding strokes by 57%.
