Lack of correlation between ventricular late potentials and left ventricular mass in top-level male athlets
Article Abstract:
No correlation between left ventricular mass and overall signal-averaged electrocardiograms (SAECG) parameters has been found in a study carried out in Italy. The study and looked at prevalence of abnormal SAECGs in top male athletes and in healthy sedentary subjects. In athletes with and those without increased left ventricular mass, the prevalence of abnormality was similar. The rate of positive results for SAECG parameters was similar in top-level male athletes and in healthy sedentary subjects. Male Italian Olympic athletes numbering 153 were studied.

ACTN3 genotyping by real-time PCR in the Italian population and athletes
Article Abstract:
Two novel sets of primers and probes are developed to detect R577X and Q523R polymorphisms of the alpha-actinin-3 (ACTN3) gene by real-time PCR. Results shows that the allelic frequencies in Italian population are consistent and real-time PCR represents an effective approach for typing ACTN3 alleles.
