Lake Erie, which has a reputation as the walleye capital of the world, is a comparatively shallow lake that contains an estimated 64 million fish. The introduction of zebra mussels to the lake has helped clean the water, improve the visibility, and change the approach to fishing.

The best time to find fall walleyes is during the autumn, when the water temperature becomes uniform, creating favorable feeding conditions at various depths. They can be caught at weedbeds on shallow flats, in large, deep lakes, and at night.
