Anne and Nelson Raymond were able to take ski trips to the western parts of Canada and the US and to California while staying on a low budget. They drove instead of flying, tried to cook their own meals whenever possible and joined organizations that offered discounts on lodging and travel.

Skiing is a relatively inexpensive sport when compared to other entertainment activities. The average price for an adult lift ticket is $30, which usually entitles someone to eight hours of skiing. Other activities are far more expensive, such as golf and professional sporting events.
