The trained retrieve method of training hunting dogs to behave appropriately when gathering fallen game can solve innumerable problems with poorly trained retrievers. The method requires a ground cable and dog collar and can be completed in four phases.

Training hunting dogs to retrieve is difficult if the dog does not have the inherent ability to retrieve. Spaniels can be taught to retrieve at a young age, but should not be forced at length to do so. A basic technique is described.
