The US Forest service has set up a hotline in an effort to stop the illegal cultivation of marijuana in national forests. Wilderness areas are becoming popular sites for marijuana patches because of their isolation, and Forest Service officials are asking hikers who spot the patches to call in.

Most animal traps used in the US are cruel leg-hold traps, which cause animals a great deal of suffering before death. Better methods of trapping exist, but the crude Newhouse No. 4 is usually used. The federal predator extermination program is discussed.
