Metabolic responses to exercise after carbohydrate loads in healthy men and women
Article Abstract:
Gender differences in pancreatic insulin secretory and whole body insulin sensitivity responses to an intravenous carbohydrate (CHO) load and metabolic responses were investigated to exercise after both intravenous and oral CHO loads. Results suggest that moderate exercise performed in the postprandial state presents a similar challenge in the ability of healthy, untrained men and women to perform exercise without a substantial decline in plasma glucose concentration below fasting values.

Recovery of muscle glycogen concentrations in sled dogs during prolonged exercise
Article Abstract:
An attempt is made to determine the depletion of muscle glycogen during five consecutive days of endurance exercise in Alaskan sled dogs consuming a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet. It is concluded that skeletal muscle in Alaskan sled dogs has remarkable glyconeogenic ability, as demonstrated by repletion to greater than 50% of resting muscle glycogen concentrations after the second of five consecutive 160-km runs even when fed a low-carbohydrate, high-fat diet.

Effect of training and rest on respiratory mechanical properties in racing sled dogs
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to compare respiratory properties in trained, rested Alaskan sled dogs with typical laboratory hounds and to determine whether subsequent training alters respiratory mechanical properties. The result showed that the Alaskan sled dogs had greater respiratory compliance reactivity to histamine compared with laboratory dogs, and there was no effect of training on respiratory mechanical properties detected in racing sled dogs.
