Sharks are considered voracious marine animals, dangerous to human beings. Recent studies have proved that, in most cases, sharks do not attack human beings without being provoked. An average of 100 million sharks are killed every year due to misconceptions regarding this marine species.

Current knowledge about sharks reveals that they do not intentionally attack humans. Attacks are usually caused by mistaken identity or the instinct of sharks to protect their territories. Sharks are more often victims of man than vice versa.

Sharks are more prey than predators. Each year many are trapped in fishing nets or killed for a few valuable body parts. Few attack humans intentionally. When they do, it is usually a case of mistaken identity or territoriality.
