Sarah Steinhour of Mason, Michigan found it difficult to find a right horse for her child though she thought she knew about pairing kids and horses after working as a riding instructor in high school and college. General recommendations are provided on how one can pair young, inexperienced riders with older, well-trained mounts.

Soft hands, heart
Article Abstract:
A mother teaches her daughter some riding skills so that she develops soft sensitive hands and is careful about avoiding head-tossing. As a result her daughter has been softer and more consistent with her reins and is developing good hands.
