Relief, rejoicing and rebuilding
Article Abstract:
The general feeling at the end of the second world war was that the world which had to be rebuilt must be worthy of the sufferings which had been endured by so many people during the war. It was felt that the UK's traditional industries needed many technical improvements and that many major reconstruction projects would be required. One of the main priorities was housing, although rebuilding was to be hampered by shortages of materials and labour.
