Nutritional intake of elite Japanese track-and-field athletes
Article Abstract:
Mean daily intakes of energy and nutrients have been surveyed from 3-day food records for 62 elite Japanese track-and-field athletes, 28 male. For the males the mean energy intake was at 3,141 kcal and for females 2,508 kcal. The long-distance and middle-distance runners had significantly higher energy and macronutrient intakes than sprinters, throwers and jumpers had. Of Jumpers, sprinters and throwers, 54% of the males and 65% of the females took in less than the Japanese Recommended Dietary Allowances (JRDAs) for at least on micronutrient.

A report of vitamin and mineral supplement use among university athletes in a Division I institution
Article Abstract:
Issues concerning the effect of the gender, ethnicity, and sport of college varsity athletes on their vitamin and mineral supplementation habits are discussed. Over half of the group studied took such supplements, and there were some differences in such usage by gender, ethnicity, and sport. Various differences are listed.

Do regular high protein diets have potential health risks on kidney function in athletes?
Article Abstract:
Bodybuilders and athletes completed a nutritional analysis and medical tests to determine effects of a high-protein diet on kidney function. Results indicate that although excessive protein can impair kidney function, quantities ingested by athletes do not pose increased risk for renal disease.
