Adopting a relaxed stance is one way to maintain control when the snow on ski slopes becomes packed and difficult. Skiing on gentler slopes, transferring weight early in a turn and maintaining smooth pressure to carve a rounded turn are other suggestions.

A slice of heaven

There are many new side cut skis on the market which allow the skier to make carved turns. Manufacturers have responded to strong European demand and a wealth of specialty skis are on the market. Twelve skis priced between $450 and $815 are evaluated.
