Article Abstract:
The Penguin Brigade had never met face-to-face until the Marine Corps marathon. Their online club is a virtual training group and when they got to Washington, they offered advice to each other. They came from all parts of the US. The most important part of the race, was the courage to start it.

Beating Gumby

A runner explains how important victory is in his life. He enjoys running because it allows him to compete against other runners, but also to compete against his own personal best. He recounts a recent 5-k race in which a friend of his battled another runner who was dressed in a Gumby costume.

Survival of the slowest
Article Abstract:
The speed at which a runner runs is not necessarily an accurate indication of how much effort is being put forth, but rather a reflection of the runner's natural ability. Slow runners can be just as content as fast runners by knowing that they are running to the best of their abilities.
