A rivalry is both a sublime and riveting thing, a state attained, when the talents and determination of two contestants are in such perfect equipoise that the outcome of their competitions would be unpredictable and unbearably fraught with tension. A renewal of the classic Agassi-Sampras rivalry, along with many other cases are discussed.

Paul Annacone: the accidental coach
Article Abstract:
Paul Annacone, tennis star Pete Sampras' coach, had no inkling he would be a tennis coach. Annacone, who was a professional tennis player himself, substituted for his friend Tim Gullikson in coaching Sampras. Gullikson died of brain cancer in 1995.
