A conversation (re)analysis of fraternal bonding in the locker room
Article Abstract:
This article explores human behavior in the locker rooms of two college sport teams. The author, focusing on how others responded to crass talk, maintains most of the responses to sexist, homophobic, or threatening remarks were either adversarial, ambiguous, or absent, concluding locker room talk reflects contradictory, mixed messages.

This article provides a pro-feminist analysis of locker room talk at the NCAA Division III level. The author, responding to his critics, argues that the athletes examined were overtly sexist, racist, and homophobic and were not challenged by other teammates or coaches, which contributes to an anti-intellectual environment.

Alternative sports are situated within backlash politics whereby subcultural or marginal representations illustrate a victimized white male and where skateboard media fosters a sustained critique of 'whiteness'. Skateboard media represents a tension between a death of whiteness and its inevitable rebirth.
