Dogs of summer

There are several famous golf clubs in Britain that allow and expect people to bring their dogs to the course with them. These places include Royal St. Georges, Swinley Forest, and Huntercombe. Dogs are quickly trained to move out of the way when swinging, to avoid bunkers and to pick up golf balls for owners.

Article Abstract:
American Poet Laureate Billy Collins remembers fondly his teenage years spent caddying at the Westchester Hills Golf Club. As far as Collins knows there has never been a poem written about golf. Collins' poetry has been influenced by his caddying experiences, which taught him subtlety, observation and economy.

Golfers worship the Old Course as the birthplace of golf. It is a subtle course that has challenged all of the great golfers, including Bobby Jones, who won the 1927 British Open there after quitting the Open in 1921.
