Practice pen: Building self-carriage
Article Abstract:
The world champion Morgan trainer and clinician Eitan Beth-Halachmy describes in detail how to promote self-carriage in your horse with a stop-at-the-fence exercise. A horse in self-carriage has the look of a champion and travels in a balanced frame on a draped rein, with a rounded topline and hind legs that reach well under him and he is light in the bridle and easy to maneuver.

Stepping up: To the stirrup and its tie to feudalism
Article Abstract:
The stirrup gave the rider greatly improved stability on the horse's back and transformed an average rider into a formidable hunter and fighter. Historian Lynn White, Jr. proposed a casual relationship between the introduction of the stirrup and the rise of feudalism as the stirrup-users had tremendous tactical advantage over foot soldiers or regular cavalry.
