The launching of Sailrocket will add another contender aiming to hit 50 knots under sail in 2004 on water. This one-way contraption is designed to ride on two tiny planing surfaces, with the leeward float flying high and dry under an inward-canned sail.

Hometown advantage? Ha!

Sailing in Savannah at the 1996 Olympics, as argued by some was a home-town disadvantage for the US Sailing Team due to distractions. It was felt that to compete at the top level at home one needs the same level of focus, which is difficult to achieve.
