Reducing the pain of salvage claims: a home-grown alternative to expensive arbitration

Onwers of yachts and other boats will benefit from the new rules that have been set up by the Society of Maritime Aribitrators and the Maritime Law Assn. for domestic arbitration of salvage claims. This new rules aim to eliminate the excessive cost to the boat owner of foreign arbitration.

A yacht owner whose boat must be salvaged can become involved in expensive arbitration with the salvor. The rights and responsibilities of the owner are discussed and the procedures of Lloyd's Salvage Arbitration are explained.
