The practical solutions and techniques for the blue water sailor are described. The boom is the dangerous piece of gear on any size of the boat, before raising the boom from the gallows with the rigid vang, a four part tackle from the boom center to the lee toerail and move the mainsheet traveler to windward, thereby eliminating any crashing back and forth while hoisting the mainsail.
