The three injured runners all look forward to the day they can run again. Both Padilla, an Olympian, and Virgin, champion cross-country runner, were seriously inquired in traffic accidents. Beardsley, a marathon champion, was in a near-fatal farm accident and became addicted to pain-killers.

100 years and running strong
Article Abstract:
Runner's World's sponsorship of the NYC Marathon was special this year, because the magazine celebrated its 30th anniversary while the marathon observed its 20th. The commemoration was highlighted with appearances by MIchael Johnson and Carl Lewis.
