Experiences of racing at The Dillon Open, Colorado's premier sailing event, are described. Lake Dillon is almost two miles high and boxed in by mountain peaks, causing breezes to be intermittent and so challenging for even the most experienced racers.

The Performance Handicap Rating System which is used in sailboat racing is discussed. The use of the system has been beneficial to sailboat racing as it has served to even the chances of success for crews.
