Uta Pippig won the women's division of the Boston Marathon in 1994 and 1995, while Cosmas Ndeti won the men's race in 1993, 1994, and 1995. Many observers did not expect Pippig to win because of the stress caused by her training schedule, her endorsement contract, and other people's expectations.
