In 1977, Fernandez injured himself at the Canadian Open. He sued no one for the accident, but when he turned 50 he decided to try for the Senior Tour. Critics see him as a good player. He carries himself as a considerate, thoughtful person. His teacher takes his winnings before he can give it away.
