Steadiness training with light loads in the knee extensors of elderly adults
Article Abstract:
A study examined the effect of steadiness training with light loads on the performance capabilities of the knee extensor muscles of elderly adults. Steadiness training with the knee extensors was found to produce neural adaptations that increased strength in elderly adults who exhibited bilateral facilitation, improved isometric steadiness in unsteady subjects, improved steadiness during concentric and eccentric contractions, and enhanced the ability to lift heavy loads repeated.

Aging, visuomotor correction, and force fluctuations in large muscles
Article Abstract:
The role of visuomotor correction in the increased force fluctuations in the elbow flexor and the knee extensor muscles of young and elderly adults is investigated. Results indicate that visuomotor correction contributes significantly to the fluctuations in large proximal muscles at very low forces, is age-dependent and more common in elderly adults.

Central modulation of motor unit activity
Article Abstract:
The functional organization of a motor pool appears to obey some relatively simple rules, despite the diversity in the properties of the motor neurons and the muscle fibers. The foremost among these rules is the size principle, which states that the order in which motor neuron are activated during a contraction proceeds from smallest to largest.
