No new world running records were made at the Championships but there was drama, amazing races and unexpected results. The ten dominant athletes since 1991 included Black Americans Michael Johnson, Allen Johnson, and Gail Devers. Also Moses Kitanui, Marie-Jose Perec, Haile Gebrselassie and Ludmila Engquist.

A memorable look back at the many amazing athletic accomplishments that occurred at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, GA, is presented. Arguably the most memorable achievement was Michael Johnson's record-shattering performance in the 200-meter sprint, a record he bettered by .34 seconds.

Michael Johnson's performances constituted one of the highlights for the Americans at the fifth World Track and Field Championships, as he won gold medals in both the 200- and 400-meter events as well as the 400-meter relay. These and other competition results are presented.
