The 1995 BOC Challenge solo yachting competition that involves sailing around the world has been marred by the accidental sinking of a competing boat and the drowning of its skipper. Nevertheless, organizers are optimistic that this event will be held once more without much change in its format in 1999.

Article Abstract:
The Whitbread Round the World Race is considered the biggest yacht racing event. The 97-98 race participated by the US, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand and France started off last September at the the Royal Yacht Squadron on the Isle of Wright, UK and will finish at Cape Town, South Africa.

The opposition

The competing teams in the 1995 America's Cup races are presented. The winner will challenge the title holder in May of the same year. Australia, France, New Zealand, Japan and Spain have their representatives to the competition. San Diego Yacht Club will defend the Cup.
